Elizabeth Carroll, 88, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away quietly in her sleep on Sunday, August 21, 2011, in Jefferson City, Missouri. On August 8, 1923, she was born in Miller County, Missouri to the late William Wade and Anna Josephene (Bunch) Cox. On April 12, 1947, she was married in Miller County, Missouri to James O. Carroll who preceded her in death on November 26, 2000. Elizabeth grew up during the Depression. After being discouraged by family she finished high school after a four-year absence and was a charter member of the National Honor Society in Eldon. She was the only person in her family to graduate high school. She later earned her teaching certificate and taught in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a member of the River City Red Hat Group, and an active member of the Blue Springs Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, she was also a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church after moving to Jefferson City to be near her husband after a car accident. She volunteered at the polls, and she enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and playing cards. She was a very good and successful homemaker and will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends. Survivors include: one daughter, Martha Fenimore of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sherrie Carroll of California, Mo.; grandchildren, Heather and spouse Chris Shea and Diane Lanning; great- grandchildren, Sabria Shea, Kayla Shea, Clarice Stuckey, Eric Lanning and Ashley Carroll; sister, Evelyn Forrester of Eldon, Mo. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Carroll, brothers, Gerald and Charles Cox, and a sister, Freda Schupp. Visitation will be held on Thursday August 25, 2011, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, Mo. Funeral service will be on Friday at 1:00 p.m., also at Phillips Funeral Home with Bro. John Shifflett officiating. Interment will follow at Greenmore Memorial Gardens in Barnett, Mo. Memorials are suggested to Relay for Life (American Cancer Society).
