Francis Louis Skornia

Francis Louis Skornia, 96, of Owensville, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. Francis was born in Tea on January 27, 1915, a son of the late Victoria (Zemann) and Charles Skornia. On June 1, 1940, at Holy Family Church in Port Hudson he was united in marriage to Karoline Lena Berger. He was a lifetime farmer, truck driver in the clay hauling industry, shoe factory worker, and piston ring factory worker. He attended elementary school at Tea. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Owensville. His survivors include his children, Susan Curtman and husband George of Union, Cathy Skornia of Hibbing, Minn., Charles Skornia and wife Charlotte of Jefferson City, and Jeanie Mofield of Floral, Ark; nieces, Betty Vogt and husband Don of Gerald, Nancy Gay and husband Mike of Brighton, Colo., Ruth McLain and husband Dave of St. Clair; nephews, Wilber Skornia and wife Arlene of Gerald, Vernon Skornia of Ballwin, Steven Bruckerhoff and wife Shirley of Elsberry; and by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his wife Karoline Lena Skornia; brothers, Henry Skornia and John Skornia; and sisters, Helen Bruckerhoff and Florence Matthews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, August 3, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Owensville with Father Jeremy Secrist officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family requests memorials to Owensville Senior Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home.
