Hiram E. Woods, age 91, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at his home. He was born June 30, 1919, in Marvin, Missouri, the son of the late Joseph Hiram and Mary Lucrease Jobe Woods. On May 9, 1939, in Versailles, he was united in marriage to Alma Lorene Monteer, who preceded him in death on October 1, 1973. Later, on June 19, 1994, at the Family Worship Center in Versailles, he married Bettie Roark Thacker, who survives of the home. Hiram was a United States Army veteran having served in WWII. He was an over the road truck driver for many years, and was a member of the Family Worship Center in Versailles. In addition to his wife Bettie, he is survived by his daughters, Mary Lou Silvey of Jefferson City, Missouri, Shirley Akin and husband Darrell of Rowlett, Texas, Judy Dunnaway and husband Gary of Laurie, Missouri, Jane Hicks of Jefferson City, Missouri, Melva Stevens of Independence, Missouri, Brenda Owsley and husband Danny of Versailles, Missouri, Lisa Lacer and husband Mark of Wright City, Missouri, Jean Howard of Nixa, Missouri, Judy Hecker of Lake Ozark, Missouri, Pam Wissman of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Sheila Riffel and husband Gene of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 29 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Homer Woods, Annie Clark, Rose Sousley, Beulah Berkstresser, Ethel McMillian, and Sarah Fletcher, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 25, at the Family Worship Center in Versailles with Pastor Danny Owsley officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in the Big Rock Cemetery in Barnett. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Family Worship Center in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hiram E. Woods Memorial Fund.
