Ms. Roxie O. Amend, age 86 years, of Troy, Ill., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Highland Healthcare Center in Troy, Ill. She was born on June 10, 1924, in Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter of Aaron E. and Rosa L. Taggart Amend. Roxie grew up in Jefferson City, attended Jefferson City Public Schools and was employed with the International Shoe Factory for several years. In the early 1960's, she moved to Granite City, Ill., to be closer to her sister, Marjorie "Irene" Leone. She lived with them in Granite City until 1992 when they moved to Collinsville, Ill. In 2004 her sister, Irene, passed away and she moved to Troy, Ill., to be closer to her nephew, Anthony Leone. A homemaker for the majority of her life, Roxie loved spending time with her family and taking care of them. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed listening to country music. Survivors include: five nephews, Anthony Leone and his wife Mary of Troy, Ill., Paris Amend and his wife Shirley of West Plains, Mo., Kenneth Amend and his wife Dien of Jefferson City, Mo., Eugene Amend and his wife Brenda of Farmers Branch, Texas, and David Amend and his wife Donna of O'Fallon, Mo.; two nieces, Judith Heinrich and her husband Earl of Jefferson City, Mo. and Marjorie Sutter and her husband Marty of Florissant, Mo.; 18 great-nieces and nephews; and 19 great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Irene Leone; six brothers, Obie Amend, Jewil Amend, Cecil Amend, Cortez Amend, Paris Amend and Ralph Amend; and one niece, Rachel Fairchild. A visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Freeman Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at New Hope Cemetery in Marion, Mo.
