Irene John

Irene Marie John, age 80, of Vienna, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in the St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City. She was born on August 5, 1930, in Maries County, a daughter of John Boone Sr. and Jewel Malinda (Keeney) Murphy. Irene was united in marriage on November 15, 1952, at Vienna, to Max Welton John, and to this union, five children were born. She was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, the Maries County Historical Society and was very active in her church and community throughout her life. Irene was a business partner with her husband in their veterinary business and had been a caregiver for her parents, her brothers, her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted housewife and homemaker and was always diligent in providing for the needs of her family. Irene enjoyed planning the annual John family vacation in St. Louis and watching Cardinal baseball games. She was a great fan of MU basketball and enjoyed watching her grandchildren in sports events. She also enjoyed going to auctions and buying antiques. Those left to mourn the passing of Irene include: her husband, Max W. John, Vienna; four children and their spouses, Beth and Gary Clinkenbeard, Vienna, Brenda and John Stafford, Columbia, Chris and Brenda John, Vienna, and Becky and Greg Steffen, Vienna; one brother and sister-in-law, J.B. and Rometa Murphy, Springfield; nine grandchildren, Laura and Bill Patton, Rachel and Luke McKenney, Joan Stafford, Sara Stafford, Seth John, Annie John, Colin John, Jordyn Steffen and Max Steffen; two great-grandchildren, Benton Patton, Weston Patton and a third, baby McKenney, due in May; step-grandchildren, Tiffany Clinkenbeard, Ami and Danny Hartwig and children, Jack, Cora and Walt, and Leslie and Brad Ream and children, Trey, Kelsie, Haiden and Owen; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Scott Murphy Johnon December 11, 1955; her father on August 16, 1997; her mother on October 5, 2002; two brothers, Gary Murphy on September 14, 1991, and Allen Roe Murphy on April 8, 1990; and one son-in-law, Roger Dean Bullock, on August 10, 1981. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Irene will indeed be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial funeral service under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes will be held for Irene at 12 noon, Saturday, April 9, 2011, in the Vienna United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Alden officiating. Private family inurnment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon, Saturday, April 9, 2011, in the Vienna United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Vienna United Methodist Church Building Fund with envelopes available at the church or the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
