Mrs. Edna L. Updegraft, age 98 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Heisinger Bluffs. Mrs. Updegraft was born January 29, 1913, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Lillian Petry Burkhalter. She was married in 1933 to Leland Updegraft, who preceded her in death in 1986. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Edna graduated from Jefferson City High School and Jefferson City Junior College. Mrs. Updegraft was an active member of the Central United Church of Christ. She taught in the church school, was involved in the Women's Fellowship, participated in Prime Time, was a charter member of the Bazaar Circle, and was formerly a member of the Steininger Circle. She was especially active in the music department, directing the junior choir for more than 20 years, accompanying the senior choir for 20 years and singing in the choir for over 70 years. She was a former member of the Morning Music Club and was active in the Heisinger Bluffs volunteers and auxiliary. Survivors include: two daughters, Marilyn Beckmeyer of Ft. Wayne, Ind. and Elaine Langerhans and her husband The Reverend Dr. C. David Langerhans of Paoli, Pa.; five grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and one great- great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Vernon Burkhalter and Oscar Burkhalter. Visitation will be at the Central United Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Dr. Stephen Buchholz officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Central United Church of Christ or Heisinger Bluffs.
