Frank Atterberry

unknown - unknown

Frank Carson Atterberry, 57, of Jefferson City, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 4, 2011, at his home, with his sister and brother-in-law holding his hands. Frank Carson was born February 13, 1954, on a farm near Hermann, Missouri, the tenth child born to Elliott and Margaret (Martin) Atterberry. He was a healthy looking 10 lb. boy, but something just wasn't the same as with his siblings. After much time in the hospital, Frank Carson's parents were told "your son is Down Syndrome. He will never develop to an IQ of more than a 6 year old and won't live past his teens." Frank Carson continued to progress and grow. He learned to do farm chores along with his siblings and parents. He attended school at the State Training Center #44 in Fulton, Missouri. After completing school, he was employed at Capitol Projects for 32 years, 11 months (which was the focus of his life). A big goal in his life was to work and earn his own money. Other than working, Frank Carson was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and enjoyed watching all the Cardinal baseball games. He enjoyed fishing and participating in sports with the Special Olympics, which he did for many years. He participated in bowling, softball, basketball, track and field, and golf. He also enjoyed going to church, walking on the Greenway Trail and traveling. He has traveled to more than half of the 50 states (Alaska being one of them), and Canada. Frank Carson enjoyed helping other people. He shoveled snow in the winter and cut grass in the summer. He was always ready to help with anything that needed to be done around church or home. He was a member of Gospel Lighthouse-Pentecostal Church of God and the Missouri Special Olympics. Frank Carson is survived by two brothers: Harvie J. Atterberry (wife Joyce) and Mike E. Atterberry (wife Marjorie) both of Fulton, Mo.; six sisters: Alda A. Jones (husband Oliver) of New Bloomfield, Mo.; Mary F. Briscoe (husband Jack) of Sturgeon, Mo.; Wanda F. Baird of Whitehall, Mich.; Martha M. Wyman (husband Danny) of Fulton, Mo.; Mona L. Scott (husband Stanley) of Jefferson City, Mo.; and Ruby J. Cregar (husband Ron) of Buel, Mo.; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Melvin "Martin" Atterberry; and a very special great-uncle: Clark Atterberry. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Pastor Walter Gilpin officiating. "The Family of Frank Carson, would like to invite everyone to wear their St. Louis Cardinal gear, to both the visitation and funeral, in honor of Frank Carson and his love of the Cardinals." Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gospel Lighthouse-Pentecostal Church of God, 222 East Center Street, Holts Summit, MO 65043. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838.
