Helen F. Phillips, 102, of Eldon, Mo., died Friday evening, October 8, 2010, at her residence at Lee House in Eldon, Mo. She was born July 18, 1908, in Tuscumbia, Mo. to William A. (Fred) and Rosa James Fendorf. She was married June 22, 1933, in Eldon, Mo. to Louis D. Phillips who preceded her in death July 14, 1978. They were the parents of two sons, Don E. Phillips of Eldon who preceded her in death December 27, 2008, and William A. Phillips of Chicago, Illinois. She attended school in Tuscumbia until the third grade and then the Eldon public schools, graduating from Eldon High School in 1926. She attended Central Business College in Kansas City, Mo. and was employed as a secretary at Vanosdall Ford Motor Co. She later attended Eckles College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and held one of the first Funeral Director Licenses in the state of Missouri. She was a partner with her father-in-law, W.A. Phillips; her husband, Louis D. Phillips, and her son, Don E. Phillips at Phillips Funeral Home from 1933 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of First Christian Church, Eldon, a 50-year member of Chapter CH, P.E.O., Niangua Chapter, DAR, Order of Eastern Star, and Miller Rebekah Lodge, a past president of Eldon PTA, a former superintendent of the First Christian Church Primary Department, and an adult Sunday School class teacher. In addition to her younger son, William A. Phillips, she is survived by two grandchildren, Helen Denice Robison of Lee's Summit, Mo. and William Daniel Phillips of Syracuse, Utah; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Kempker, Trevor Hoehn, and Ashley Leies, and a number of cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon Missouri with the funeral service on Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Shirley Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Eldon, Missouri or Meals on Wheels.
