Helen Lucille Griner Humphrey, age 92, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born March 23, 1918, in North Kansas City, the daughter of the late William E. and Nora Lee Terry Griner. She spent her childhood and attended school in Meta. She was united in marriage to Harmon Norton Humphrey in 1935, and had three children, Terry Trowbridge, Barbara Ann, and Susan Jane. She worked at the Forum Cafeteria as a cashier in Kansas City, as a cook at the Versailles Elementary School, and later purchased the Versailles Dairy CrËme and managed it for many years. Helen was a member of the Versailles Chamber of Commerce and the Versailles United Methodist Church. She loved to cook, was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and she enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show. She will be remembered for her famous Queenburger, her love of Russell Stover candies, her no-bake cookies, her wonderful pies she shared with everyone, and her care giving. Helen leaves her daughters, Barbara Pearce and husband Kaye of Pea Ridge, Ark., and Susan White and husband Paul of Versailles; grandchildren, Bobbi Birdsong, Beth Bauer, Barrie Bales, Ginger Arment, Cindy Marriott, Cristy Bauer, David White, and Brent and Gary Humphrey; 12 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Terry Humphrey; her grandson, Bret William Bauer; her granddaughter, Teri Gay Bauer; and her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lee and LaVerne Griner. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, at the Versailles United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry Fielder officiating. Interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church.
