Mrs. Ora Fern Fitch, age 96 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, November 8, 2010, at St. Joseph Bluffs. Ora Fern was born February 15, 1914, in DeSoto, Mo., a daughter of Roy and Magdalene Lynch Ragland. She was married July 3, 1937, in DeSoto, Mo., to Wallace N. Fitch, who preceded her in death in August 1973. A resident of the Jefferson City area for the past 16 years, Ora Fern graduated from DeSoto High School. Wallace and Ora Fern owned and operated the Geer-Croy-Fitch Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo., from 1945 until their retirement in 1970. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff where she served as the church organist for 53 years, and was also very active in the church's music ministry. Ora Fern was a also member of the X-Club and the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. Survivors include: two sons, Randy Fitch and his wife DeLinda of Jefferson City, Mo. and Bob Fitch and his wife Carol of Troy, Ill.; one sister, Margaret Coggins of the state of Florida; two grandchildren, Jon Fitch and his wife Charlene and Dr. Jeff Fitch and his wife Michele; and five great-grandchildren, Chris Fitch, Alex Fitch, Kathryn Fitch, Carson Fitch, and Hunter Fitch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Mo. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary in Jefferson City, Mo. and Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
