Gary Ralph "Pete" Bax, 64, of Taos, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center.
He was born September 9, 1945, in Dixon, a son of Delbert and Ruby Stricklan Bax, both deceased. Pete was a logger, working in his family's owned and operated timber business all his life until his retirement. He enjoyed sports, especially basketball and baseball, and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. Pete got his exercise by picking up recyclables along area roads. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren. On June 8, 1996, Pete was united in marriage with Catherine "Kay" Perkins, who survives at their home.
Other survivors include one son, Mark Bax of Brazito; three daughters, Sheila Bax of Jefferson City, Wanda Schrimpf and husband Gabe of Jefferson City, Jennifer Schaffer and fiancE Brian Smith of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Seth Ward, Austin Schrimpf, Jade Ewald; seven brothers and sisters, Roger Bax of Jefferson City, Susie Howard and husband James of St. Louis, Adlai Bax and wife Sherry of Jefferson City, Arnold Bax and wife Alice of Jefferson City, Brenda Wages and husband Larry of Clifton Hill, John Bax and wife Vicki of Jefferson City, Tina Winemiller and husband Alan of Jefferson City; a sister-in-law, Helen Bax of Linn; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Bax; and uncles, Raymond Bax, Donnie Bax, and Jimmie Stricklan.
Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Private family interment will be held.
