Clarence Maire (Veteran)
Clarence Joseph "Joe" Maire, 84, of Jefferson City, entered into eternal life Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born on August 24, 1925, in Jefferson City, the son of the late William and Rose Ann Sallins Maire. Joe was a 1950 graduate of University of Missouri with an accounting degree. Joe was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict as a submariner. During his time in the Navy, Joe was a ping-pong champion for the Navy. He was united in marriage on August 3, 1945, in Jefferson City, to Betty Jean Sappenfield, who preceded him in death on March 14, 1991. Joe retired from Missouri Power and Light as a property accounting manager where he participated with the companies Junior Achievement program for high school students. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and VFW. Joe enjoyed fishing, golfing, sports, bike riding, playing pool, and tennis. He also coached little league baseball. He is survived by four children: Pat (John) Stafford of Holts Summit, William J. Maire of Jefferson City, Janice (Joseph) Krachenfels of Elston, and Gregory Claude Maire of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and great-nine grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Dumas officiating. Visitation will be 12 Noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
