Paul L. Mehmert, 78, of Chamois, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born November 5, 1931, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Louis H. and Crescentia (Markway) Mehmert. On June 19, 1954, Paul was united in marriage in Chamois, to Patricia M. Morton, who survives at their home. Paul worked for many years at the Chamois & Morrison M.F.A., where he retired as Manager. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and served from November 24, 1953, to November 23, 1957. Paul was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois. He was also a member of numerous civic and church organizations. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and being in the outdoors. Survivors include: two daughters, Paula M. Helle (husband Wayne) of Linn and Victoria Sallin (husband Dale) of Linn; two sons, Steve Mehmert (wife Michele) of Pewaukee, Wis. and Sam Mehmert of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Dala Hemeyer, Ben Sallin, Jordan Sallin, Quinton Sallin, Andrea Helle, Kaitlin Helle, Samantha Mehmert and Steven Paul Mehmert; one great-granddaughter, Ella Hemeyer; two sisters, Dorothy Rost of Chamois and Mary Ellen Bax of Morrison, Ill.; and one brother, Leonard Mehmert of Belleville, Ill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Mehmert Jr.; and one sister, Betty Mehmert. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Chamois. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois, where the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. David Means officiating. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Bailey's Creek Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Bailey's Creek Cemetery Association.
