Mildred Lee Schneider, 89, of California, passed away Monday, July 12, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
She was born May 31, 1921, at St. Louis, the daughter of Abraham W. and Mayme (Hughes) Stone, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married December 26, 1943, at Central United Church of Christ in Jefferson City, to Wesley C. Schneider, who passed away on January 23, 2009. Mrs. Schneider was a 1940 graduate of Jefferson City High School. After her marriage she accompanied her husband to U.S. Army bases on the East Coast. At the end of World War II, she became a farm wife, first in Cole County, then in Moniteau County where the couple operated a Grade A dairy farm. She was also employed at the California Manufacturing Company for several years. Mildred was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, near California, where she was the first woman to serve as council president. She was a Sunday School teacher and 4-H leader. She was a member of the California Chapter #521, Order of the Eastern Star where she was Worthy Matron in 1965 and served as secretary for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Ratcliff and husband David of California, and Joyce Schutt and husband Harold of Berger; four grandchildren, Bryan Ratcliff and wife Robin, Debra Maverick and husband Matthew, Sarah Felmey and husband Kevin, and Matthew Schutt; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Schneider and wife Margie of Russellville, Henry Schneider and wife Shirley of Santa Ana, Calif., and Oliver Barnard of Ozark; three sisters-in-law, Mabel Thompson of Lohman, Shirley Stone of Newton, Iowa, and Irene Stone of Holts Summit; and many nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. Burial will be in California Masonic Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Collette Jones. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 15, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Salem United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, c/o Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S.
