Jeanne Duncan Daly, age 58, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at home, marking the end of a hard-fought battle against inflammatory breast cancer. She was a true artistic spirit and the hub of her family. She was born Marian Jeanne Duncan in Jefferson City, on May 4, 1951, to James Wayne and Josephine Duncan. Jeanne Daly never met a project she could not tackle. She leaves a legacy of exquisite handmade prom dresses and dance costumes; giant paper mâché turnips; stained glass sconces; wood cuts and watercolors; sparkling and whimsical holiday trees; service on the Moberly School Board and commitment to education; and general magic. She was a woman who designed her own house and then erected many of the wall studs herself to ensure it was ready by Christmas Day 1996 after her contractor called in sick. Self-effacing and kind, Jeanne was well-loved by those she met at Inside Outlet, through her work as a docent at the University of Missouri's Museum of Art and Archeology, through her service to the Assistance League and elsewhere, and most of all by her family. Jeanne is survived by her husband, Dr. Michael Daly; her mother; her brother, James "Jim" Duncan of St. Louis; four children, Michael Daly, Kimberly Daly Tadrus, Kate Daly Pitzer and Mackenzie Daly; and a dozen grandchildren. Her family extends sincere thanks to the medical professionals who provided her with excellent and compassionate care, and gratitude to those who were a part of her life and will carry her memory. Jeanne very specifically requested that gifts in her honor be made to Museum Associates, Inc. of the Museum of Art and Archeology, Jeanne Daly Gift Fund, 1 Pickard Hall, Columbia, Missouri 65211.
