Charles Leonard Schmidt, 91, of Tipton, died February 16, 2010, at Tipton Oak Manor following a brief illness.
Charles was born in Jefferson City on August 22, 1918, to Charles G. and Alpha (Carver) Schmidt. He had two sisters: Geraldine Rodgers, who resides in Raytown, and Virginia Hartman, who preceded him in death. He was married in Sedalia on December 23, 1960, to Ruth Wolfrum, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Charlene Nash, with husband Michael Nash, of Bloomfield, Iowa, and two grandsons, Steven and David Nash. He also had five nephews: Charles, Vernon, and Steven Hartman; Mick Rodgers, and the late Timothy Rodgers. Mr. Schmidt worked out of Jefferson City for the MO Pacific Railroad from 1947 through 1985 as a locomotive fireman and later as an engineer, following in his father's footsteps. He also worked at Whiteman Air Force Base as locomotive engineer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, assigned to the Panama Canal Zone. Services will be at noon on Saturday, February 20, at The First Christian Church in Tipton with burial in the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 until noon.
