Mr. Paul Roger Hickey, age 65 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, August 16, 2010, at the Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Roger was born August 14, 1945, in Henley, Mo., the son of George O. and Gladys P. Hoskins Hickey. He was married in November 1966 in Kansas City, Mo., to Jody Dowden and was later married to Debbie McDowell. A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Roger was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He attended the University of Arizona at Tempe, Ariz. and the University of Missouri at Columbia, Mo. He graduated from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., with a degree in accounting. Roger was a Certified Public Accountant with Cooper and Lybrand for five years in St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Phoenix. He operated P. Roger Hickey, C.P.A in Jefferson City from 1973 until his retirement in June 2009. Roger was also a restaurant businessman for several years and operated two Captain D's restaurants and a Backyard Burger restaurant. He was a member of the Jefferson City Country Club. Roger played baseball with the American Legion team and Ban Johnson teams. He could often be found on the golf course, boating on Lake Ozark, at a St. Louis Cardinal game or barbequing for friends and family. Survivors include: his daughter, Wendy Michelle Hickey of Breckenridge, Colo.; two sisters, Alice Marie Etter of Raytown, Mo. and Doris Carolyn Marlotte and her husband Mike of Shawnee, Kan.; 10 nieces and nephews and their spouses Kelly and Chris Dollar of Nixa, Mo., Michelle and Jody Jones of Stockton, Mo., Kim Scott of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Cash Etter of Raytown, Mo., Lance and Joanna Etter of Leawood, Kan., Shelley Hickey of McKinney, Texas, Amy and James Copeland of McKinney, Texas, Kristi and Dave Depperman of Jacksonville, Fla., Megan and Marty Young of Gilmer, Texas, and Bradley and Janelle Hickey of Japan; and 22 grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010, in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be at the Hickory Hill Cemetery. Those desiring to send flowers may instead make memorial contributions to the Family Counseling Center in Columbia, Mo., or to Hospice Compasses of Jefferson City, Mo.
