Mrs. Julia R. Finley, age 71 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Capital Region Medical Center.
Mrs. Finley was born on January 3, 1939, in Divernon, Ill., the daughter of Arthur T. and Mary E. Albright Sexton. She was married on May 28, 1960 in Chatham, Ill., to David E. Finley, who survives at the home. Julia graduated from Glenwood High School, Chatham, Ill., in 1957. She attended the Institute of Business Techniques. She worked as a secretary for various businesses: Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield, Ill., from 1957 until 1960; Western Illinois University at Macomb, Ill., from 1960 until 1963; and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1963 until 1967. From 1967 until 1979, Julie was a homemaker, serving many years volunteering in her daughters' classrooms as room mother at West School, Brownie Troop Leader and on the West School P.T.A. Before her service at West School, she volunteered her time for the Goshorn Center in Jefferson City. She re-entered the workforce full time in Jefferson City as an office assistant at several area businesses: Motor Carriers Service Tariff Bureau, Inc. from 1979 until 1993; the office of R.G. Palmer, O.D. from 1994 until 1997; and Harmon Document Retrieval Service from 1997 until her retirement in 2000. She also found time for several hobbies including bowling, oil painting, reading, and flower gardening. She enjoyed doing puzzles and playing games of all kinds with her daughters and grandchildren. Survivors include: her loving husband of 50 years, David Finley; two daughters and their families, Dava-Leigh Brush and her husband Steve and son Benjamin of Arnold, Mo., and Kelli Reed and her husband Aaron and children, Neil and Eve of Jefferson City, Mo.; four brothers; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010. A funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Thursday in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Brian Kirk officiating. A private graveside service and entombment will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Capital Region Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Dept., or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
