Mary Ellen Amos, 76, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center.
She was born September 7, 1933, in Jefferson City, a daughter of the late Louis H. and Bertha M. (Fisher) Gilmore. She lived in this area all of her life and attended Jefferson City and Eugene schools. On May 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to Bobby Ray Amos, who preceded her in death on March 22, 1981. She retired from MODOT in October 1988, after 32 years of state service. She also worked in home health care for several years. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, cooking and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one son: David Amos (wife Paula) of Centertown; one daughter: Sharon Wilson (husband Gordon) of Brazito; three grandchildren: Scott Amos (wife Marya), Damond Wilson (wife Teresa), and Dara Rackers (husband Chad); three great-grandchildren: Cody Amos, Whitley Wilson and Jordan Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Private family services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
