Dr. Robert L. "Rob" Robinson Jr., age 59 years, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Dr. Robert Leonard Robinson Jr. was born January 27, 1951, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Robert L. Robinson and Tina L. Wilson Robinson. He was married on August 7, 1982 in Newport, R.I., to Valerie J. Traynum. To this union two sons were born, Andre' D. Robinson on May 10, 1983, and Tyree L. Robinson on May 21, 1987. He was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Mo. in 1968. He began his college education at Central Missouri State University (CMSU) by earning a Bachelor of Science in Sociology/Law Enforcement in 1972. He pursued his Master of Science in Criminal Science at CMSU, which he earned in 1975. Five years later, Dr. Robinson earned his doctorate at the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Ph. D. in Higher and Adult Education with minors in Educational Psychology and Social Work Administration. Dr. Robinson started his career at Lincoln University in 1972 as an instructor in Criminal Justice Administration. In 1975, he went to work for the Missouri Department of Safety as a Research and Evaluation Specialist. Criminal Justice called him to Kansas City in 1977, to be the Associate Director with the Community Crime Prevention Missouri Council on Criminal Justice Region-1. The following year, 1978, he returned to Lincoln University's Criminal Justice Department as Coordinator/Professor for over 25 years. In 2002, he worked as a Professor of Criminal Justice and Executive Assistant to Lincoln University's president. He was appointed by Governor Bob Holden to the State of Missouri Department of Corrections Board of Probation and Parole in 2003. Dr. Robinson believed very strongly in the importance of community service. He served the community in different capacities during his life. He served on the Missouri Probation and Parole Citizens Advisory Board, Missouri Volunteer Probation and Parole Office, Missouri Drug Education Task Force, Student Mentor at Jefferson City High School, Director of Youth Trackers - Division of Youth Services, and as a youth basketball and baseball coach. He was especially pleased to serve on the advisory panel to select Jefferson City's Police Chief in June of 1985 and in January of 1996. He was affiliated with the Eta Alpha Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated where he held numerous offices: Keeper of Finance, Undergraduate Advisor, Omega Man of the Year, Basileus, District Marshal, Central Missouri State Representative Intake Chairman, Eighth District Council Representative, and First Vice District Representative. He was also a member of the Second Baptist Church and involved with many other commmunity services. His favorite hobbies included: golf, fishing, baseball, basketball, tennis and barbequing. He was the tailgate "King" of Lincoln University Homecoming celebrations. Rob departs his life leaving to mourn his passing: his wife, Valerie J. Robinson; three sons, Robert L. Robinson III of Arcata, Calif., Andre' D. Robinson of Kansas City, Mo., and Tyree L. Robinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; his father, Robert L. Robinson Sr. of Lee's Summit, Mo.; one sister, Cynthia L. Fuller (James) of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three brothers, James Shelby (Frederica) of Kansas City, Mo., Randy E. Robinson (Viola) of Grandview, Mo., and Rickey J. Robinson (Janice) of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Ricana Redmond (Louis), Latoya Collins (Kenneth), Rickey Robinson Jr., Khalid Grace, Chris Robinson (Lakisha), Damien Robinson (Laura), Aisha Grace, Jason Robinson, Karnia Mallory, Talisha Mallory; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tina L. Robinson, of Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Paula S. Mallory, of New York. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Second Baptist Church, 501 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101, with the Reverend Cornell C. Sudduth Sr. officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2010, at Park Lawn Memorial Park, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Visitation will be held at Second Baptist Church immediately before the service from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon Saturday.
