David Lee Maloney

David Lee Maloney, age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at Capital Region Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born on December 19, 1940, in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Wayne L. and Adeline (Snowden) Maloney. On March 6, 1960, in Jefferson City, David was united in marriage to Shirley D. Hendricks who preceded him in death on May 6, 2006. A longtime resident of the Jefferson City area, David graduated from Jefferson City High School in May of 1959. After graduation, he enlisted and served six years in the United States Marine Corp stationed in Hawaii and California for the majority of his service. While living in California, David worked for the Ventura City and County libraries for six years. After returning to Jefferson City, he was employed with the Jefferson City Housing Authority for 27 years until ill health forced his retirement. David was a member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and the Samuel F. Gearhart Detachment of the Marine Corp League. Some of David's favorite times were barbequing for family over holidays, day trips throughout Missouri with Addy, and being known as the Canasta champion. He found peace being outdoors in nature and cherished time camping, hunting, or fishing with his son, Mike. He developed his love of nature as a boy scout himself, and then enjoyed time as an assistant scout leader when Mike was younger with Troop 105. Survivors include: one son, Michael Wayne Maloney of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sisters, Jane Putnam of Liberty, Mo. and Sarah Barnett (Danny) of Mountain Grove, Mo.; his best friend and significant other, Addy Beinlich of Jefferson City, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Rosemarie Sachs of Jefferson City, Mo.; and brother-in-law, Bill Putnam of Camdenton, Mo. David will also be missed by his nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Along with his wife, David was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; a baby brother, James "Jimmy" Maloney; and a sister, Carole Bolfing-Jackson. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Saturday, September 21, 2019. Funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 21, 2019, in the Freeman Chapel. Graveside service and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
