Wayne Howard Dority

Wayne Howard Dority, age 91, of Edwards, Mo., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, while hospitalized at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. He was born August 19, 1927, in Benton County, Mo., the son of William and Viola (Howard) Dority. On November 16, 1947, at Fifth Street Methodist Church in Sedalia, he married Imogean McDavitt. Wayne was a self-employed contractor owning businesses operating in Sedalia for many years, including Dority Building and Decorating which focused on residential fire restoration throughout West-Central Missouri, until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie, Mo., and was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sedalia, having served on the church board for several terms. Always supportive of youth, he managed Little League Baseball teams in the 50s, and helped organize Boy Scout Troop 65 in Sedalia. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. In his later years, PaPa cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at his lake home, on his beloved home-place farm and on family trips. Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Imogean, of the home; a son, Larry W. Dority (Daryl) of Jefferson City; two grandchildren, Matthew W. Dority (Vikki), of Kansas City, and Lyssa L. Surface (Bryan), of Louisville, Colo.; six great-grandchildren, Kevin, Margot, Anna, Lilly, Abigail and Ally; two great-great-grandchildren, Averie and Sabrina; a sister, Doris Green, of Sedalia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wyatt Dority and Loren Paul Dority; and a sister, Avery Crouch. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia. Casket bearers will be Matthew Dority, Bryan Surface, Kevin Bergeron, Don Dority, Rick Dority and Randy Satterlee. Honorary bearers will be Steve Ronnekamp, Gary Dodd, Harold Waisner, Vince Yount, Preston Duckworth, Al Vasey and Gary Schremser. Burial will be in Cable Ridge Cemetery near Edwards. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cable Ridge Cemetery or Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church.
