Dorothy Schaefer

Dorothy Schaefer, age 101, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, in Germantown, Tennessee. After graduating from St. John's College in Winfield, Kan., she was the principal and teacher at Trinity Lutheran School in Winfield. Following that, she accepted an appointment to teach at Trinity Lutheran in Jefferson City where she was a teacher, tutor, Scout leader, music director, church organist, and mentor. She retired from classroom teaching after her marriage to Dr. Ralph Schaefer, but remained active in school, church and community activities. She was honored with Trinity's Person of the Year Award in 1998 by the Trinity Lutheran School Alumni Association. Her love of learning prompted her to continue her education, and in 1971 she received her B.S. in Education from Lincoln University. Survivors include five children: Judith, Joan and husband Alan, Fred and wife Janelle, Eleanor, Dorothy Jean and husband Tom; sister, Lois Sohn; 10 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings. Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and reflecting Dorothy and Ralph's commitment to Calvary High School, expressions of sympathy may be made to LCMS Foundation Dr. Ralph and Dorothy Schaefer Memorial Fund (1333 South Kirkwood Road, St. Louis, MO 63122-7295) which funds scholarships to Calvary High School, or a charity of the donor's choice.
