Leonard Henry Buschmann, age 91, of Vienna, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at his residence near Vienna. He was born on August 28, 1927, near Vienna, in Maries County, a son of William John and Clara Catherine (Zimmer) Buschmann. Leonard was united in marriage on June 11, 1955, at St. Anthony, to the former Miss Rosalee Catherine Blomberg, and to this union, six children were born. He was a member of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 13178, both in Vienna. During his working life, Leonard had helped on the family farm while growing up prior to his employment as a steelworker in St. Louis. He moved back to Vienna and worked at Leonard Weidinger's Standard Station. Leonard then worked for his brother-in-law, Melvin Wansing, at his Phillips 66 Station and did lawnmower and small engine repair there as well while at the same time attaining his GED and teaching degree from Lincoln University. After acquiring his teaching certification, Leonard was employed by the Maries R-1 School District, Vienna, as the Vocational Technology Instructor for many years and also drove a school bus and kept his evening repair service going at the station retiring from those endeavors in 1986. He continued working as an Automotive Repair Instructor at Rolla Technical Institute (RTI) for three additional years before he fully retired in 1989. Leonard was a master at anything related to gardening and lawn care; an expert in small engine repair; and an artist when crafting his handmade bird feeders. Our community loved seeing Leonard coming with his arms loaded with his homegrown produce to share and others to enjoy.
