Ruth Aungerer, 89, of Jefferson City, leapt joyously into the arms of Jesus, on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Villa Marie. Mrs. Aungerer was born June 14, 1929, in Jefferson City to Charles and Goldie Ziegler. As a young girl, Ruth moved to St. Louis with her family. In 1962, she and her daughters moved to Jefferson City. In 1964, Ruth married Oscar Surface who died in 1971. In 1977, she married Bob Aungerer who died in 2007. In the 60's Ruth cared for the elderly in her home. The 70's through the 90's, she became Grandma Ruthie to the many children at her in-home-daycare. Ruth also provided private duty care for the elderly in their homes. Those who knew and loved her will forever cherish her silly and happy-go-lucky personality, and her loving and giving spirit. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one sister, five brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughters: Joyce Walker McDonald (Tony), Brenda Lowrey Branigan (Andy), and Sandi Walker Miller (Rick); her church family; three brothers; four sisters; her dear friend Lena; her nephew, Norris Jr., who she loved as a son; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and countless friends including her "Little Soldier Boy" Jeremy (Melissa). Family and friends are invited to enjoy a sample of Ruth's famous rum cake and a sucker, from her sucker tree, on Friday March 8, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main Street, Jefferson City, Mo. A celebration of Ruth's life will be on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri with Rev. Don Fankhauser, from Capital City Christian Church will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Capital City Christian Church.
