Edward Sturtz

Edward "Mick" Sturtz, age 80, of Meta, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at his home. He was born in Gary, Indiana on December 9, 1938, son of the late Albert and Mary (Sochka) Sturtz. On October 21, 1960, in Doniphan, Edward married Wilma Lee Williams, who survives at their home. Mick served in the Army 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Department of Corrections after 26 years as a guard and later worked at the Miller County Sherriff's Department as a transport officer for seven years. He was a member of the Freeburg American Legion and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved getting family and friends together for fish fries and crawfish boils. In addition to his loving wife, Wilma, he is also survived by three children, Theresa Mueller and husband Arnold of Meta, Peggy Moore of Richland, and David Sturtz and wife Wanda of Meta; seven grandchildren, Adrienne Fick (Casey), Carla Nilges (Craig), Bradley Moore, Ashley Kramer, Steven Kramer (Olivia), Amber Sturtz (Austin), and Abby Sturtz (Dylan); 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Nicholson of St. Louis, Annabelle Smelser of Ohio, and Sandy Sturtz of St. Louis; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Sturtz Jr. and one sister, Mary Ann Doca. Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta with Bart Larson officiating. Interment with military honors will be held in Southside Cemetery in Meta. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Edward Sturtz Memorial Fund.
