Alma Eileen (Newkirk) Hollering, 97, of California, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at California Care Center. She was born on October 10, 1921 in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Rosa (Althoff) Newkirk, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married on February 3, 1945 in California, Mo., to Earl Hollering, who preceded her in death on May 8, 2004. She attended school in California. She worked at the California Woolen Mill and retired from the California Democrat. Alma was a faithful member of the California Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed working in her yard, cleaning her house, spending time with family and reading the Bible. Alma read the Bible through in its entirety at age 91, and had recently started again for the 3rd time. She was rarely seen without a toothpick in her mouth. She is survived and was loved by many generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings: Geneva (Charlie) Albin, Betty (Marschel) Croy, Richard (Louise) Newkirk, as well as infant siblings, Dorothy Mae and Junior. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services following at 1 p.m., at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. Burial will be in California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Church of God of Prophecy. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S Oak, California, MO 65018.
