Mary Jo Pope

Mary Jo "Reed" Pope, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully Friday, January 4, 2019, at River City Living Community surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 17, 1944, to Delphia Leola Branham and Vincil Brooks and was united in marriage to Herman Pope August 6, 1966, in Jefferson City, MO Mary Jo confessed her life to Christ at an early age. She attended Jefferson City High School, graduating in 1962, going on to attend Lincoln University. Mary Jo worked at Lincoln University's Residential Life, then Community Health Center, where she worked many years before retiring. In both positions she was the face that happily greeted everyone and was able to form strong bonds with her co-workers and people in the community. Mary Jo was a beautiful, loving and kind person, but most of all she was a devoted and dedicated mother & grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was being there for her kid's and grandkid's special moments. She loved her family deeply and there was nothing out of reach when it came to them. She leaves her memory to be cherished by her children: Nikita Pope of Jefferson City, Mo. and Jason Pope of Charleston, Mo.; mother-in-law: Carrie Paulateer of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sister-in-law: Lola Flowers of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sisters: Victoria Riddick and Mae Smith of Norfolk, Va.; brothers: Joseph "Joe" Branham and Charles "Honey" Branham of Norfolk, Va., Harold "Jit" Johns (Saundra) of Muskegeon, Mich.; grandchildren: Jerrell Faulkner, Jermauri Faulkner, Alcina Reese, Xavier Reese, and Jaylahni Pope; and a host of family and friends. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at One in Christ Baptist Church with Bishop James Howard officiating.
