Oliver Rendall Manning III

Oliver Rendall Manning III, age 79, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Heisinger Bluffs Living Center in Jefferson City surrounded by his family. Oliver was born on January 3, 1939, in St. Louis, a son to the late Oliver Rendall Manning Jr. and Edna (Maness) Manning. He was a 1957 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a lifetime member of the Jefferson City area. Oliver served in the Army Reserves for two years and worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. Oliver walked the downtown Jefferson City route for many years. Following his retirement, Oliver moved to Florida where he loved to visit the ocean and enjoyed the warm weather. He resided in Florida for about 15 years, before moving back to Missouri to be closer to his family. Oliver was of the Catholic faith and a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Jefferson City. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the American Postal Workers Union. Oliver was an avid reader and loved collecting books. He enjoyed watching Nascar racing, and was a fan of country music. Oliver loved life, his laughter and jokes entertained many who met or knew him. He will be missed greatly by those that knew and loved him. Oliver is survived by: one daughter, Karla S. Thompson and her husband Rick of Jefferson City one son, Michael B. Manning of Jefferson City; one grandson, Jacob C. Thompson and his wife Deanna of the Lake Ozark area; two great-grandchildren, Trinity and Gavin Thompson; his former wife, Margaret Sue (Hemmel) Manning of Jefferson City; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Cook of Jefferson City. In addition to his parents, Oliver was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Murphy and Mary Kennedy; and his grandparents, Oliver Manning Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Manning. Memorial services will be held January 5, 2019, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. and a service following at 10:30 a.m. at Heisinger Bluffs Chapel in Jefferson City with Pastor Jim Mueller officiating.
