Jennie Lee Ashley

Jennie Lee Ashley, age 78 years, of Hartsburg, Mo., passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Jennie was born February 4, 1941 in Pryor, Okla., the daughter of Stanley L. and Zelda E. (Ousley) Huggans. She was married to Phillip Ashley. She was a 1959 graduate of Pryor High School in Pryor, Okla. and a 1960 graduate of Tulsa Business College. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1971, Jennie was employed with A.B.B. for several years and later as an Administrative Assistant with the Missouri Board of Healing Arts until her retirement. Jennie was a faithful member of First Assembly of God where she volunteered her time in many ways, especially with the clothing giveaways. She was also a Charter Member of the Missouri River Quilting Guild. Jennie poured her love into the quilts she made for family and friends. She enjoyed making lap quilts for the veterans who participated in the Central Missouri Honor Flights. In her free time, Jennie enjoyed tending to flowers in her many gardens, quilting, sewing, crafts, and needlepoint. She cared for God's many creatures and especially liked feeding birds and enjoyed the pets she had throughout her life. She acquired her lifelong passion for flowers while helping her Aunt Mable operate her flower nursery business in Pryor, Okla. when she was younger. Jennie was full of love and cherished time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite memories were celebrating the holidays and family gatherings. During her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her family to Yellowstone, Hawaii and antiquing with her daughter in Ohio. Her family will always remember her cooking for the holidays, visiting on Sunday afternoons, her caring heart and working hard to provide for them. Survivors include: four children, Christopher England of Portland, Ore., Patrick Ashley and his wife Marla of Jefferson City, Mo., Paula Jacobson and her husband Donald of Madison, Ohio, and Susan Elaine Close and her husband Mel of Hartsburg, Mo.; two sisters, Melissa Holman of Yukon, Okla. and Margaret Jones and her husband Blaine of Poquoson, Va.; eight grandchildren, Greg Lambert, Amy Humphreys and her husband Drew, Andrew Stevens, Sarah Pauley and her husband Cord, Donald Jacobson, Michael Jacobson, Cameron Ashley and Claire Ashley; and one great-granddaughter, Blair Humphreys. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Judy Davidson. Visitation will be at First Assembly of God from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2019. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2019 at First Assembly of God with the Reverend Lowell Perkins officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Boone County, Mo.
