Herbert Louis Strobel, 84, of Centertown, Missouri, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019, at his home. He was born on December 19, 1934, in McGirk, Missouri to George William "Bill" and Edith (Boeckhaus) Strobel. Herbert graduated from California High School in 1954. While in high school, Herbert joined the Missouri National Guard and stayed in for 39 years retiring as Sergeant Major. On May 7, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield, Mo., Herbert was married to JoAnn Blumhost who survives of the home. He worked at Scruggs and Guhlemann Lumber in Centertown and for 27 1/2 years worked in Logistics at the United States Property & Fiscal Office (USPFO) in Jefferson City. After retiring, Herbert drove a school bus for California R-1 School District for 20 years. Herbert was a lifelong farmer. It was said that farming was Herbert's hobby, as he enjoyed being out in the open fields, working the ground and talking to the cattle. Herbert loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching and following their sporting activities. Along with his wife, Herbert is survived by a son, Todd Strobel (Debbie), Jefferson City; a daughter, Angie Schelker (Jim) of Chesterfield; five grandchildren, Hayden, Gaven and Quinten Strobel, and Kyra and Adam Schelker, two sisters, Nola Fischer of Russellville and Joyce Rohrbach(Lashley) of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Hilbert L. Strobel in 2012. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Evandro Kopper and Rev. Sam Powell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
