Donald "Donnie" S. Strope, 76 of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019, at his home. He was born on February 27, 1942, in St. Thomas, Missouri, a son of August and Anna (Groner) Strope. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ortmeyer on October 21, 1967, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. Donnie compiled an impressive record of achievement that includes being a six-year veteran of the Missouri Army National Guard, a dedicated father and caring husband, he was an accomplished carpenter and lead man for 20 years for several Jefferson City contractors before starting his own business as a residential building contractor in 1979, retiring in 2010. He was a hardworking farmer, member of the HBA Board of Directors and recipient of the HBA President's Award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling with Dorothy and spending time with their family especially the grandchildren. Donnie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of over 51 years; one son: Scott (Dawn) Strope of Jefferson City; one daughter: Tania (Dennis) Lock of Jefferson City; six grandchildren: Hayley Strope, Matthew Strope, Gage Lock, Parker Lock, Cooper Lock, and Callie Lock; two sisters: Mary Ellen (John) Brunnert of Carthage, Claire Ann (James) Huhn of Folk. Donald is preceded in death by one son: Travis Strope; parents; one infant sister: Elizabeth Marie; three brothers: Cletus Strope, Leander Strope, Ralph Strope. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with a prayer service at 3:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic School or St. Peter Catholic School.
