Carol Ricks

Carol Ricks, formerly of Elsberry, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born December 21, 1942, in St. Charles, Missouri, the daughter of O'Garlan C. and Kathryn Trescott Ricks. She graduated from Elsberry High School with the Class of 1960, attended Christian College and graduated from the University of Misssouri, Columbia. She lived in Chicago and St. Louis after college. After taking classes at UMSL and Maryville University she returned to Elsberry and in 1976, began her teaching career. She taught special education for PAL Coop in the Elsberry Schools and art at Lincoln Co. R1 in Silex, retiring in 1998. She also worked for the Elsberry Democrat. A passion for architecture led to her becoming a site interpreter for the Frank Lloyd Wright 'Dana-Thomas Home' in Springfield, Illinois for 15 years. She spent one weekend there each month and traveled with the Dana-Thomas Home Foundation on several tours. She loved to travel to Charleston, South Carolina and to the Dakotas. She traveled to England, Italy, France and Switzerland and took two cruises, one on the Queen Mary II. She was a 57-year member of Chapter AI P.E.O. Sisterhood, and attended seven conventions, including one international convention in Vancouver, Canada. She also belonged to the DNC Club in Elsberry and was a member of the Lincoln County Democratic Club. She served on the boards of the Lincoln County Historical Society, Lincoln County Children's Mental Health Board, Elsberry Public Library Board, member of Elsberry Merchants and Artisans Association. She was a member of the Elsberry United Methodist Church and involved with Tuesday's Child at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Christian Trescott Ricks. Survivors include one brother, Allen Louis Ricks of Manchester, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Ricks of Jefferson City; one niece, Andrea Louise Curtis and her husband Troy of Sedalia, Missouri; one nephew, Christian Trescott Ricks II and his wife Beth of Kansas City, Kansas; one great-niece, Elizabeth Kathryn Young of Sedalia; one uncle, Lewis Trescott and his wife Cathy of Colorado; two aunts, Jeanette McMillin of St. Peters and Beverly Mueller and her husband Ray of Brentwood, Tennessee; special friends, Penny and David Radley of Peoria, Illinois, Pam and Ozzy Mueller of Jefferson City; and many cousins. A memorial service will be held August 25, 2019, at Elsberry United Methodist Church at 1 pm. Memorials may be made to the Joseph R. Palmer Family Memorial Library. She frequently spoke of how fortunate she felt to have met so many wonderful people in her life. Carol asks her friends to remember her by doing something positive every day, to always look ahead and to be kind to the elderly. In the words of Michelangelo, "I'm still learning."
