Elliott "Ell" Leon Alberts, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on November 17, 1928, in Cedar City, a son of the late C. S. and Grace (Smallwood) Alberts. Elliott was united in marriage in 1948, to his beloved wife, Jessie, and into this marriage two children were born, Denny and Debbie. On April 2, 1979, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Riggs. Elliott was a 1946 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He attended the University of Missouri where he obtained a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1951. During his time at Mizzou, he was 3rd baseman on the baseball team, and until his passing was the oldest surviving member. Elliott had the honor and privilege of throwing out the first pitch during the April 6, 2019, Mizzou baseball game. He was also a member of the 1947 Redbirds All Star semi-pro baseball team. Elliott was employed with the Missouri Department of Transportation for over 35 years until his retirement. He was resident engineer and instrumental in the building of the Missouri River bridge on I-70 at Rocheport. Elliott was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693. He was an accomplished guitarist and played with a country band until he was in his 80's. Elliott was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou baseball fan and had a great sense of humor. He was a devoted family man and cherished the memories made with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Denny Alberts (Cynthia) of Dallas, Texas and Debbie Buersmeyer (Duane) of Jefferson City; wife: Bonnie Alberts, Jefferson City; brother: Roger Alberts (Joy) of Holts Summit; grandchildren: Laura Mountjoy (Brian) of Dallas, Texas, Leah Hynes (Steve) of Jefferson City, John Alberts (Jeanne) of Thailand and Erin King (Jon) of Jefferson City; great-grandchildren: Mary Katherine Mountjoy, John Brendan Mountjoy, Cade Hynes, Luke Hynes, Landon King, Alana Hynes, Elliott King and Molly King. Elliott was preceded in death by his wife: Jessie Alberts; brothers: Douglas Alberts, Lester Alberts and Richard Alberts. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Funeral Services following at 6:00 p.m. Interment with be private for the family.
