Herbert William Verslues, 82, of Taos, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Westphalia Hills surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 4, 1935, in Jefferson City, a son of the late Frank John and Katherine Theresa (Taube) Verslues. On October 12, 1957, Herb was united in marriage to Theresa Marie Renkemeyer at St. Peter's Catholic Church. He graduated from Westphalia High School in 1952. He served as Municipal Judge of Taos from 1973 to 1993 and as First Grand Knight of Taos Knights of Columbus Council in 1973. Herb worked for his father at Frank Verslues Construction and his brother at Fred Verslues Construction. He was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor with Algoa Correctional Center and he managed H & H Schnieders Grocery Store. Herb played baseball for the JC Redbirds, Ban Johnson and Taos. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing (especially the open invite at Twehous Lake), being a master griller, barbecuing, playing cards, working and visiting with family and friends for a cold one at Dave's. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Herb, along with his family also processed meat in the basement of their home, but most of all, Herb cherished spending time with his family. Along with his wife of 60 years: Theresa, he is survived by eight children: Carla Bruemmer (Bernie) of Jefferson City, Lisa Heislen (Gary) of Jefferson City, Lynne Reinkemeyer (Alan) of St. Thomas, Sam Verslues (friend Jesse Jones) of Jefferson City, Sharon Buschjost (Curt) of Jefferson City, Gary Verslues (Kathy) of Wardsville, Grant Verslues of Bridgeton, Lora Boessen (Mark) of St. Thomas; 20 grandchildren: Christopher Verslues, Brad Bruemmer (Melissa), Sarah Bruemmer (fiancée Cole Stegeman), Katie Bashore (Adam), Jennifer Garrison (Chris, deceased), Ryan Heislen (Brie), Nicole Heislen, James Reinkemeyer, Karlie Reinkemeyer, Abbey Verslues, Grace Verslues, Lindsey Buschjost, Justin Buschjost, Alex Buschjost, Brock Buschjost, Thomas Verslues, Hannah Verslues, Emma Boessen, Olivia Boessen, and Philip Boessen; six great-grandchildren: Owen Bruemmer, Reece Bruemmer, Hayden Garrison, Noah Garrison, Ryker Heislen, and Bexley Heislen; daughter-in-law: Kelly Verslues; brother: Stanley Verslues (Laurine); sister: Joanie Hoerschgen (Tom); sisters-in-law: Kay Verslues and Ruthie Verslues. Herb was preceded in death by one son: Chris Verslues; brothers: Roger Verslues, Jim Verslues, Al Verslues, Leon Verslues, Richard Verslues, and Fred Verslues; and sisters: Angeline Berhorst and Mary Pleus. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Prayer Service at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Michael W. Penn and Fr. Roberto Ike officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Taos. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or St. Francis Xavier School.
