Paul Alan Hawley

Paul Alan Hawley, age 90, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Columbia, Missouri. Paul was born June 11, 1928, in Detroit Michigan to Clinton Guy and Lyda Alvina Griffin Hawley. Paul and his mother moved to St. Johnsbury Vermont in 1937, where Paul resided until 1952. He is a graduate of the St. Johnsbury Academy (class of 1946). Paul, a veteran of WWII, served in the US Navy. Paul married Mary G. (Gay) Ouellette, his wife of 59 years on July 31, 1949, in Burlington and resided for a brief time in St. Johnsbury, Vt. They moved to Burlington, Vt. in 1952, where he was employed by Fairchild Industries, a subsidiary of Fairchild Camera and Instrument Co. Fairchild Industries was purchased by McGraw Electric in 1957, and Paul and family transferred to Jefferson City, Missouri in 1958, with the company, a power tool and small appliance manufacturer, serving as Manager of Engineering, Production Superintendent, and Plant Manager. Paul and Family then transferred with the company to St. Charles, Ill. in 1973, where he was named Director of Manufacturing for the newly formed Power Tool Division of the McGraw-Edison Company. Another transfer for the family came in 1975 to open a new plant in Sedalia Missouri. McGraw-Edison divested itself of the power tool facility there in 1978. Then he and Gay moved to Columbia, Mo. where he went to work with Toastmaster until his retirement in 1990. From then on, he enjoyed traveling to New England in their motor coach and spending time with family in Columbia. He is survived by his children, William A. (Evelyn) Hawley of Jefferson City, John A. (Valerie) Hawley of Jefferson City, and Sandra J. (Dan) Hawley Stoeckel of St. Ann, Mo.; grandchildren, Clinton, Phillip, Ryan, Griffin, Christy, Carmen, Candice, and Colette; great-grandchildren, Stella and Edmond, Jackson, Corbin, and Emma. His loving wife, Mary G. Hawley, preceded Paul in death. Visitation will be Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, Mo. Private family graveside service will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
