Mary E. Taliaferro, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 28, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 22, 1934, in Chillicothe, Missouri, the daughter of the late Raymond R. and Myrtle P. (Schoch) Short. Mary was united in marriage on November 27, 1955, in Hannibal, Missouri to Walter L. Taliaferro, who preceded her in death on April 7, 2001. She graduated from Hannibal High School and Hannibal-LaGrange College. Mary worked as a medical technologist for St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal and as an information specialist for the Missouri Baptist Convention until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, the Missouri River Quilt Guild, the Specialty Quilt Club and the Quilt-4-U Club. Mary enjoyed reading and playing cards with friends. Her greatest joys came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary is survived by her three daughters: Kimberly Taliaferro of Jefferson City, Lisa Cox (Rick) of Jefferson City and Erin Kirkland (Shane) of Killen, Alabama; four grandchildren: Derrick Cox (Erin) of Jefferson City, Chelsea Cox (fiancé Zak Fletcher) of Holts Summit, Briana Kirkland of Fairfax, Virginia and Zachary Kirkland of Killen, Alabama; great-grandchildren: Grace and Colton Cox; cousin: Sue Riddle (Larry) of Republic; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Sandra Short. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Concord Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
