Jerrell Calvin Woodland

Jerrell (Jay) Calvin Woodland, age 81, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away May 3, 2018 at VA Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla. Jay was born June 1, 1936 in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Jewel and Geraldine (Harris) Woodland. Jay graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1954. He attended Kansas Art Institute and School of Design. He joined the U.S. Army in 1958 - 1961. After service, he became an interior designer in California. Moving to Florida, he owned a travel agency and became a successful travel agent for many years. Leaving to mourn his death are a son, Damon (Beth) and two grandchildren, Sam and Jamie, of Murrieta, Calif.; a sister, Jackie (Bill) Patton, Prairie Home; two sisters-in-law, Lanetta Woodland and Sandy Badger; one aunt, Roxy Woodland; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends; one very special friend, Mali, an African Grey Parrot, 19 years old; and a special human friend, Ruth Montgomery (Scott, Robert, and Kendall). He was preceded in death by his parents and a special brother, Jim Wayne. Jay donated his body to science. Per his wishes, no services were held. Donations in his name may be sent to Veterans Hospital, American Cancer Society, Audubon Society, or as you wish.
