Mrs. Lois Ross Smart, 89, of Jefferson City, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Joseph Bluffs. Lois, affectionately known as G-Mom to her family, was born December 6, 1928 to Paul and Lenore Ross of Philadelphia, Pa. She enjoyed a wonderful early life and spent her time swimming, bicycling, and cutting class with her dear friends Barbara and Anne so they could sneak out to watch the Philadelphia Symphony. They spent their high school years singing together in the school quartet and some of her fondest stories came from those times. After she completed high school she worked to finance her own way to a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics at Drexel University. She discovered a deep love of bridge and pinochle during her college years, a trait she passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She married Mr. Charles Homer Smart, of Callaway County Missouri, shortly after graduating college. They shared a full and loving life together until Charles's passing in 2007. They were an adventurous couple and took their children on vacations to the wilds of northern Canada and in their later years threw caution to the wind and spent nine years traveling around the United States in an RV, exploring the country. Lois is survived by her sons, Robert R. Smart and his wife Clarissa, Charles W. Smart, and Paul Smart; and her devoted grandchildren, Melissa Testut and her husband Grant and their littles Declan and Theodore, Cindy Schillers and her husband Randy and young Tyler, and Catherine Berendzen and her husband Kevin and their little Lillian. Lois was beloved by her family and will be missed dearly. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Heartland Cremation and Burial Society, Columbia.
