The Reverend Dorothy Lou Lairmore Michel, 80, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, March 17, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on June 17, 1937, in Coolidge, Kansas, the daughter of the late Reverend Victor Lairmore and Mabel Buel Lairmore. She was married in Jefferson City to Larry Fussell. She was later married on January 19, 1991, in Bay, Missouri, to the Reverend Alan Christian Michel, who survives at the home. Dorothy was a 1955 graduate of Jefferson City High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980 from Sonoma State University, and a Master of Divinity degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary (Presbyterian Church, USA) in 1984. Ordained a United Church of Christ minister in Prescott, Arizona, she served First Congregational Church of Christ in Prescott. Reverend Michel later served Faith United Church of Christ in New Braunsfel, Texas; Tipton Christian Church; Latham Christian Church; Zion-Saint Paul United Church of Christ, Bay, Missouri; and as Associate Minister at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City from 1993 until her retirement in 2001. She was a member of Hartsburg United Church of Christ, past president of the Jefferson City Ministerial Alliance, and was recognized for her contributions to art and painting. Other survivors include two children, Laura Janan (Bob) Terpstra, Hudson, Wisconsin, and Douglas (Carol) Fussell, Missouri City, Iowa; three step-children, Cynthia (Michael) Roesch, Pacific, Missouri; Catherine Michel, St. Louis County, Missouri; and Cassandra Michel, St. Louis, Missouri; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna (Jim) Gregory, Columbia, Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Lairmore, Columbia, Missouri. She was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores Werdenhausen, and one brother, Donald Lairmore. Funeral services will 11 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2018, at First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Daniel Hilty officiating. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
