Eileen Louise (Seck) Farnen

Eileen Louise (Seck) Farnen, age 92, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, in Jefferson City. Eileen Louise Seck was born in Wea, Kansas, the youngest of five children of Lawrence Seck and Anna Christine Schleicher Seck. In this farm family, Eileen became an expert in sewing, canning, raising crops, and cooking "from scratch." As a young woman, she moved to Kansas City to work as a secretary, including a stint at TWA. She met William Farnen on a blind date at a shrimp boil at his home. They married on September 20, 1952, and raised their family in South Kansas City. Eileen was active in St. Elizabeth Parish, knitted for charity, quilted in three groups, and beginning in 1977, volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in the recovery room. She served on the PTA, and supported her children in Scouts, music lessons, and Parochial schools. Eileen was also a large volume blood donor through the Community Blood Center. Eileen remained lifelong friends with housemates from her post World War II rooming house, and they organized a philanthropic and service minded club. This club met monthly until aging prohibited their gathering. Eileen enjoyed her travels with her husband to many states and internationally. In her final years, she suffered from Alzheimer's disease and moved to Jefferson City for care near her daughter. Eileen was a good neighbor, strong in her faith, and an excellent mother and grandmother. She is survived by children, Stephen (Kris), Caroline Ward (Duane Evers), Linda Stryker (Ted), and Roger (Helene); grandchildren, Katy, Eric and James Ward, William and Elizabeth Stryker, Christopher Kang; and one great-grandchild. Eileen was predeceased by her parents; husband, Bill (2015); and siblings, Gilbert and Jerome Seck, Eleanor Pickert, and Bernice Callaghan Dhooghe. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Signature Funerals, 8019 State Line Road, Kansas City MO 64114. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 7444 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.
