Joyce Bowles, 74, of Jefferson City, formerly of Oak Park, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born on July 14, 1943, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Luther and Marjorie (Rux) Stokes, who preceded her in death. She was united in marriage on November 26, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edward Joseph Bowles, who preceded her in death on August 6, 2017. Joyce graduated from Prospect Heights High School in Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. She stayed home to raise her three lovely girls and then returned to school and obtained her Associates of Business Administration degree from Triton College in River Grove, Illinois. Joyce worked for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in the Bronx, New York, and Hines, Illinois, where she retired after 25 years of employment. She served as a Girl Scout leader for several years and enjoyed volunteering at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois. Joyce enjoyed swimming, sewing, gardening, cooking, and perfecting the landscape around her home. She was also a longtime Booster Club member and track and field officiate for Oak Park and River Forest High School and volunteered and participated in various community organizations and events. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters: Leslie (Janal) Bowles-Early of Wilmington, North Carolina; Traci (Heath) Hathaway of Broomfield, Colorado; and Finee Bowles of Jefferson City, Missouri; five grandchildren: Tyson Suttle, Corey Suttle, Enzo Hathaway, Lucinda Early, and Joi Early. While our loving mother and grandmother is laid to rest, we hold her close within us. We ask that you do the same -- in your mind and spirit -- and remember her warm smile, her kind words, her unique Brooklyn accent, and her infectious smile. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
