Joyce M. Rutherford, 87, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at University Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, surrounded by her family. Joyce was born on January 30, 1931, in Callaway County to Earl W. Fishburn and Tressa F. (Adams) Fishburn. Both preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to George Rutherford on August 18, 1950, in the parsonage of the Court Street United Methodist Church by Rev. Randolph. Joyce attended the old West School and has been a loyal member of the graduating class of 1949. She worked at the State Street International Shoe Company from 1948 until 1958. After her second child was born, Joyce dedicated her life to her family and being a homemaker. After moving into their new home in 1963, Joyce's love for children grew to watching children in her neighborhood. She spent 32 years caring for many children but always put her family first. Joyce served as room mother for all three of her children, was a Cub Scout leader and served on the Bush School PTO. She was a life-long member of Court Street United Methodist Church. Throughout her life, she was very active. She began bowling at a very young age with her parents and continued until 1965. She was a member of the Powder Puff League and was also on a mixed league with her husband. She was proud of her bowling, winning many trophies, and often told others how she could "out-bowl George". She was also a member of the Callaway Archery Club, although never competed. Joyce loved camping in the RV with her husband and they were members of the Jolly Rogers RV Club. She was also a member of the Dixie Dames Red Hat Ladies Club. Joyce was always crocheting and has given many afghans as gifts to family and friends throughout the years. She also enjoyed needle work and arts and crafts. Joyce is survived by her husband of 67 years; one son, Mike Rutherford (Cindi) of Jefferson City; two daughters, Gail Maddox (Gary) of Jefferson City, and Becky Stafford (Jeff) of Fulton; 10 grandchildren, Susan Crowe (Shawn) of Jefferson City, Chris Rutherford of Winter Garden, Fla., Melissa Milius (Eric) of Fulton, John McDaniel (Sara) of Fulton, Andrew Windisch (Gillian) of Portland, Ore., Steven Windisch (Laura) of Omaha, Neb., Shauna Gilbert (Bruce) of Moberly, Kristen Cobb (Daniel) of Mountain Home AF Base, Idaho, Jacob Stafford (Mae) of Mildenhall AF Base, UK, and Justin Stafford of Fulton; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one niece, Lisa Chapman (Todd) of Deltona, Fla.
