Roman Joseph Sanning

Roman Joseph Sanning, age 87, of Jefferson City, went home to meet the Lord on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, after a brief illness. Roman owned and operated JoLiDa Fabric Company in Jefferson City before working and retiring from the Division of Employment Security. He was an avid fisherman and led the choir at Sacred Heart Parish in Eldon. He was a driving force to establish and support the Sacred Heart Picnic each year. He also sang in the choir at St. Joseph for many years. He loved to garden and give away his harvest. He was famous for his barbeques and parties and making enough food "to feed Cox's Army." He was born on July 17, 1930, in Meta, the son of Henry Sanning and Anna (Gerling) Sanning. He leaves behind his wife of the last 35 years, Carol Sanning. He is proceeded in death by his mother, father, brothers Don (Jean) and Harry Sanning; first wife, Frances (Matlock) Sanning and stepson William Crawford. He leaves grieving his children: Joseph (Sarah) Sanning of St. Louis, Lisa Sanning of St. Louis, David Sanning of Jefferson City; and Beth (Lonnie) Lepper of Eldon. Roman leaves behind grandchildren: Stevanie Pico of Los Angeles, Calif., Suzanne Sanning of Portland, Ore., Joseph Sanning of Lexington, Ky., Jonathan Sanning of Lexington, Ky., Kristi Stringer of St. Louis, Amber Stringer of Columbia, Charliss Cooper of St. Louis, Charles Cooper of Columbia, Addie Lepper of Eldon, Lance Sanning of Eldon, Christian Sanning of Maine, Haylee Kern of Camdenton, and Preston Sanning of Tenessee. He leaves great-grandchildren, Jonny Waldorf, Zachary Waldorf, Elizabeth Waldorf, Ayden Sanning, Asher Sanning, and Lev Montague, Evelyn Sanning, Charles Roman David Cooper, Ethen Sanning, Stephen Henley, Gavin Hamlin Bentley, and Cooper Price Colia. Roman, a devout Roman Catholic, father and grandfather, put God and family first. Hailing from Mary's home in Missouri, he raised his family all over the country as a retail executive and state auditor. He retired with his wife, Carol Sanning, in Jefferson City, Missouri. Roman is beloved and will be missed by all who knew him. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, with Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the family of Roman Sanning.
