Vernon B. Zimmer

Vernon B. Zimmer, age 87, of Brinktown, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born in Iowa on December 6, 1930, son of the late Lawrence and Adeline (Roecker) Zimmer. On October 24, 1959, in Meta, Vernon married Nancy Jane Borgmeyer, who preceded him in death on October 5, 2013. Vernon honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following the war, he worked as a television tech at St. Elizabeth TV and Appliance and Clark TV in Brinktown. He was a third-generation farmer and took over his family's century farm in 1971. Vernon loved family and friends to visit and enjoy time on the farm hunting and fishing. He was a member of the VFW and Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown. He is survived by six children, Mark Zimmer of Belle, Judy James and husband Clint Darr of Fulton, Paul Zimmer and wife Tami of Orangevale, California, John Zimmer and wife Melissa of Vienna, Dale Zimmer and friend Donna Kesel of Folk, and Glen Zimmer and wife Kristan of McKinney, Texas; 16 grandchildren, Jacinda Zimmer, Candice Zimmer, Elise Zimmer, Jennifer James, Megan Roberson, Molly James, David James, Hannah Zimmer, Paxton Zimmer, Kelsea Laughlin, Morgan Zimmer, Allie Zimmer, Alex Zimmer, Ashley Zimmer, Blake Zimmer, and Alaina Zimmer; six great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Helen Winkleman, Luella Fick, Ivan Zimmer, and Larry Zimmer. He was also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kaitlyn Zimmer, and his sister, Leona Fick. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 6, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Brinktown with Fr. Matthew Flatley officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Guardian Angels Cemetery in Brinktown. Memorial contributions are suggested to Masses or to Guardian Angels Catholic Church.
