Mary Lou Hassler, 86, of Columbia, Mo., passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Boone Hospital, surrounded by her family. Mary Lou was born on May 10, 1931, in Winnetonka, Missouri, to George E. Wolf Sr. and L. Berneice Burnham. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1949 and from Jefferson City Junior College in 1951. She married William T. ("Bill") Hassler on July 30th, 1951, in Jefferson City. They joined Our Lady of Lourdes in 1960. She and Bill enjoyed traveling the world together. Mary Lou was an avid reader and spent her time volunteering at Central Missouri Food Bank and walking in the mall with her friends. She is survived by her children Michael (Cindy) Hassler of Houston, Texas, and Lyn (John) Hassler Karl; her grandchildren, Katie (Brent) Karl McDannald of Columbia, Dr. Amanda (Mark) Hassler Stadnyk of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sgt. Jordan (Alyssa) Karl of Jacksonville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, August McDannald and Leila Karl; brother, George E. (Gwen) Wolf Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Bill; sister, Barbara Fitzgerald; and her parents preceded her in death. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri at 2101 Vandiver Dr., Columbia, MO, 65202.
