Richard "Pete" Paul Loethen, 86, of Taos, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Westphalia Hills Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of the late George Edward and Della Alice (Patton) Loethen. Pete was a 1949 graduate of St. Peter High School and attended Springfield Jr. College. He was stationed in Europe as he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954. Pete worked for Shikles, Zenith Mfg. for 24 years and was a driver for the Springfield School Bus System. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos. Pete enjoyed history, playing cards, traveling out West, joking around and loved the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball team; he never got over the missed call that allowed the Kansas City Royals to win the 1985 World Series against the Cardinals. He was a good-hearted man and will be missed by his family and his dog, Black Jack. He is survived by one sister: Rachel Prenger of Taos; brother-in-law: Howard Carlson of Shenandoah, Iowa; sister-in-law: Rosemary Loethen of Lady of the Lakes, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos with Fr. Greg Meystrik officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Taos. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to the Central Missouri Honor Flight, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or remembering Pete with masses would be appreciated.
