Leona Theresa Morfeld, 87, of Westphalia, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018, at University Hospitals. She was born on September 12, 1930, at home in rural Westphalia, Missouri, the daughter of the late Stephen and Johanna F. "Jennie" (Wilde) Berhorst. She was united in marriage on April 15, 1950, in Westphalia, to Frederick Joseph Morfeld who preceded her in death on October 17, 2013. In earlier years, Leona worked at Tweedie's Shoe Factory. She then worked as a packing line supervisor for Scholastic, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, St. Ann's Sodality, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Leona was a faithful member of the church, praying the rosary daily. She enjoyed farm life, gardening and had a passion for raising chickens. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and music. Survivors include three children, Paul (Shirley) Morfeld, Westphalia; Linda (Jim) Schatzer, Hartsburg; and Roger (Melanie) Morfeld, Westphalia; one daughter-in-law, Annette Morfeld Bruemmer, Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren, Sarah (Michael) Rothermich, Nathan (Angie) Morfeld, Brad (Shannon) Morfeld, Scott Morfeld, Trisha Morfeld, Dustin (Ramona) Schatzer, Kurtis (Suzanne) Schatzer, Nicholas (LeAnn) Schatzer, Christopher Kempker, Ben Kempker, and Royce Morfeld; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Morfeld, Linn; and June Berhorst, Westphalia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Morfeld; two brothers, Joseph Berhorst and Stephen Berhorst; three sisters, Clara (Alphonse) Massman, Agnes (Norbert) Schellman, and Dorothy (Alfred) Kleffner; and two brothers-in-law, Stephen Morfeld and Frank (Cecilia) Morfeld. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2018, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, with the Rev. Anthony J. Viviano officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E.
