Helen Lucille Prewitt Vernon, age 91, of Osage Beach, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. Helen was born September 14, 1926, the firstborn child of Walter Lucian and Reva Glea Lupardus Prewitt of Zebra, Missouri. She attended School of the Osage and Warrensburg Teachers College, teaching school at Vernon School near Eldon and Aurora Springs, Missouri. She met and fell in love with her soulmate Robert Herschel Vernon who was in the Army Air Corps in World War II. The two were married on December 22, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas. They had two children Karen Dianne, and Richard Robert, who passed away in December 2011. Robert Herschel Vernon passed away in May 2017. Helen worked for many years in downtown Kansas City in the furniture department of Macy's. Moving to Eldon in 1970, Helen and Robert purchased the Delight Drive-In restaurant. After retirement Helen loved to read and she studied architecture and horticulture. She spent much of her warm weather months tending to her flowers, bushes and trees. She collected many of their seeds and always hoped to plant an orchard. She is survived by her brother Walter L. Prewitt Jr. and wife Kathy; her daughter, Karen Dianne Stith; son-in-law, Fred Stith; daughter-in-law, Debbie A. Vernon; grandchildren, Jennifer Stith Bruns and husband Brian, Eric Stith, Barbara Smith and husband Andy; three great-grandchildren, Jaxon Bruns, Ava Grace Bruns, and Oliver Smith; and nephews, Jerry Prewitt, Gary Prewitt, and Terry Prewitt. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 14, at 2 p.m. at Gott Cemetery, Highway C, Ulman, Missouri.
