Robert D. Bommel Sr.

Robert D. "Bob" Bommel Sr., age 94, of Cuba, Mo., formerly of Fulton, Mo., died Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Mo. He was born on July 15, 1923, in Luverne, Iowa, to August W. and Grace M. (Gaster) Bommel. Bob was united in marriage to Betty L. Allen on June 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan., and to this union two sons were born, Robert Jr. and Stephen. Bob worked as a machinist at Danuser Machine Company in Fulton and later Brunson Instrument Company in Kansas City, Mo. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded three Bronze Stars. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting and reading. Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of 71 years, Betty L. Bommel of Cuba, Mo.; one son, Robert D. Bommel Jr. of Cuba, Mo.; one brother, Gerald L. and wife Emma Bommel of Jefferson City; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, August W. and Grace M. (Gaster) Bommel; one son, Stephen Allen Bommel; and three brothers, Floyd, John "Jack", and James Bommel. Graveside service with military honors will be held later at Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton, Mo. The Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba is honored to be serving the Bommel family.
